        World ocean day 2023 : It is celebrated on June 8th. It is to create awareness regarding preserving and conserving oceanic resources .Ocean provides food and supports bio diversity and climate . Pollution ,destruction of Aquatic habitats , overfishing and acidification of Ocean are examples of exploitation . World Ocean day is aimed to bring down reckless exploitation of Oceans and ensured sustainable measures to save them. Reducing the use of plastics ,sustainable sea food choices and strong environmental policies are important to protect Ocean . It was first proposed at earth sumit held in RIO de Janeiro, Brazil by Canadian Government .          

         Nova Kakhovka incident : It is in Southern Ukraine in the Russian controlled area .NATO has accused Russia for blowing this dam . People from the low lying areas either side of the River Dnipro have been evacuated .Kakhovka Hydro electric power plant is present in the city of Nova Kakhovka . This is built on Dnipro River which flows from country's North into the Black sea .The dam operator UkrHydro Enerho stated that the dam is fully destroyed because of that Agriculture land and dozens of villages and Towns were flooded. It is not cleared the cause of breach in the dam. But NATO and Ukraine military accused Russia of blowing it .
           Heavy weight torpedo test fired  : Indigenously developed and designed Heavy weight torpedo (HWT ) Varunastra was successfully test fired with a live war head against under sea target . It is a ship launched anti- submarine Torpedo having acoustic homing , low drift navigational system, advanced acoustic counter measure features , insensitive munitions war head, low drift nevigational systems and a GPS based recovery aid for practice torpedo . It has hit bull's eye in live test by Indian navy .
            Launch of MAHIR mission : Missions on advanced and high- impact research (MAHIR ) was launched as a national mission by ministry of power and ministry of new and renewable energy . The aim is to develop emerging technologies with in and outside of India in the power sector the goal is to promote indigenous research, development ,positioning India as a global manufacturing hub and development of  advanced power technologies . Initiative  like make in India , startup India and goal to achive Net Zero emissions . MAHIR will have two tire structure having Technical Scoping Committe and Apex committe .The identified eight areas for research are alternatives to Lithium – ion storage batteries ,green hydrogen for mobility , modifing electric cookers for Indian cooking methods , carbon capture , geo thermal energy , nano- technology for EV batteries, solid state refrigeration and indigenous CRGO technology.
