‘Shri Anna ‘ or Millet mission of India : Millets can help to tackle challenges of food security . Prime Minister called for increasing share of cereal in the National food basket. At Global millets (Shri Anna) conference Prime Minister stated that after India’s proposal United Nations declared 2023 as ‘ Inter National year of Millet’. Mission can help 2.5 crore small and marginal farmers in India ‘ . At present millets constitute 5-6% in the national food basket . PM urged to increase this . Production linked Incentive (PLI) scheme for food processing sector . Indian production of millet is 170 lakh tones which is 80% of Asian production and 20% of global production . Average yield of millet is 1229 kg per hectare and Indian production is 1239 kg per hectare . Millets can grow in difficult condition and it can withstand drought and diseases. Domestic consumption is about 2-3 kg per month earlier and now it is 14kg per month. Global millet conference was held in Pusa, New Delhi. Millet mission will help to improve the life of Marginal farmers.
