Lithium deposits found in Jammu and Kashmir’s Reasi are of best quality:

Reserves of 5.9 million tonnes of lithium, used for manufacturing electric vehicles and solar panels, have been discovered in Reasi district by the Geological Survey of India.

The country’s first lithium reserve, found in Jammu and Kashmir on February 9, 2023, is of the best quality, a senior government official said here on Saturday, as excited villagers expressed hope that the discovery would bring them a bright future.

A 5.9 million tonne reserve of lithium, an important mineral for manufacturing electric vehicles and solar panels, was discovered in Reasi district by the Geological Survey of India (GSI).

Lithium fall’s in the critical resources to the categories which was earlier not available in the India place and we were 100% dependent on it is the imports. G3 (advanced) study of GSI reveals presence of best quality Lithium in abundance in the foothills of Mata Vaishno Devi Temple at Salal village (Reasi).

He said that against the normal grade of 220 parts per million (ppm), the lithium found in Jammu and Kashmir is of 500 ppm-plus grading, and with reserves of 5.9 million tonnes india will surpassed to the China in it is availability .

Shri Sharma said that Lithium has wide application and its discovery during India’s G20 Presidency provides an opportunity to Jammu and Kashmir to showcase its rich reserves.

When asked about the likely timeline for commencement of its evacuation, he said that every project takes its time. “We had G3 level studies and now G2 and G1 studies will be done before final extraction of metal. Everything will be done at the earliest and we will cooperate with GSI and extend our full support in this historic achievement.” They said.

The official assured to the people’s that the reserved would prove to be the games and changer for them as according to the industrialized policy of the governments, priority is given to locals youths in any projects.

He said to the Local youth, whether skilled and semi skilled or unskilled, will be the part of this projects. Those who will be affected by this project will be given adequate compensation and rehabilitated under the rules.”
