Guneet Monga’s The Elephant Whispers gets an Oscar nomination, Docu world is a new genre for India but global platforms are taking it up :

Guneet Monga talks to us about The Elephant Whispers, how she’s reflecting on her win at the 95th Academy Awards and how documentaries are still a new genre in India.

The feeling is still sinking in. I hope the universe and everything aligns. Lots of luck and support for the film for sure. I am very grateful to have been nominated and made it to the top 5 in the world,” she tells us.

Asked if Indian audiences take Indian cinema more seriously after being recognized abroad, Monga then gives her insight into how documentaries are viewed in India.

The world of documentary is a new genre for India, but global platforms are taking it forward. The documentary itself is a new format for consumption but is now freely available. And, of course, the awards help highlight it. Any kind of award or festival recognition brings recognition with it. It was the purest ambitions to make this selflessly and beautiful film about this magical bond that it is almost like a spiritually specific ones. Everything I will done has been very risky . In the traditional sense, a complete calculation of risk. This is done to ensure that we get the best.”

Monga further reveals that every new film is a start-up and hopes that her next film will be funded as it stirs the same and further says that she never makes films for festivals. The makers also talk about India at the Oscars this year.
